Your privacy matters. This policy explains what information Foretab collects, how we use it, and what choices you have. We keep it short and plain because that's how it should be.
1. Who This Applies To
This Privacy Policy applies to all visitors to foretab.com and app.foretab.com, all users of the Foretab dashboard, and all subscribers to our email list (the "Service"). The Service is operated by Slate Holdings LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. References to "we," "us," and "our" refer to Slate Holdings LLC.
Contact us anytime at hi@foretab.com.
2. Geographic Scope of Service
Foretab's geographic scope at present is intentionally limited:
- Customers. Foretab does not knowingly accept subscriptions from individuals or organizations domiciled in California, Washington, Texas, Vermont, or Oregon. This is a deliberate policy choice tied to state-specific privacy and data broker laws in those states.
- Source data. Foretab does not collect, store, or process data from California state alcoholic beverage authorities at this time. Foretab also does not collect data from any state whose public records law prohibits the commercial use of license records.
If you are a California resident accessing Foretab through a non-California organization, the protections described in Section 8.2 still apply to you. If your organization later relocates to one of the excluded states, please notify us at hi@foretab.com so we can wind down your account.
3. Information We Collect About You
3.1 When you sign up or subscribe
When you create a Foretab account, start a free trial, or pay for a subscription, we collect: your email address, the name you provide, your selected states, and your subscription tier. Payment is processed through Stripe; we do not receive or store credit card numbers — Stripe handles all payment processing under its own privacy policy and security standards.
3.2 When you join our email list
If you sign up for the Foretab waitlist or marketing communications, we collect your first name and email address through Kit (formerly ConvertKit). Providing this information is entirely voluntary.
3.3 When you use the dashboard
When you log in and use the Foretab dashboard, we collect standard application usage data: which states you filter to, which exports you run, which filters you save. We use this to operate and improve the product. We do not use individual-level usage data for marketing.
3.4 When you visit our marketing site
We collect basic analytics data on foretab.com visits, including pages visited, time on site, browser type, and general location (city/region level). We do not use this to identify individual visitors or to build advertising profiles.
3.5 Technical information we collect automatically
When you access foretab.com or app.foretab.com, we automatically collect technical information necessary to operate and secure the Service, including IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring URL, and the date and time of access. This information is used for authentication, security, troubleshooting, fraud prevention, and aggregated analytics.
3.6 When you contact us
Any information you include in an email to hi@foretab.com is retained for the purpose of responding to your inquiry and for our customer support records.
4. Sources of Information We Aggregate (Public State License Records)
This section is unique to Foretab and deserves clear explanation.
4.1 What we aggregate and where it comes from
Foretab aggregates public records published by US state alcoholic beverage control (ABC) authorities. These records may include limited contact information about licensed establishments — business names, addresses, license types, license numbers, and in some states, the names of principals or officers listed on the license.
This information is publicly available through state government databases and is republished by Foretab, not collected by Foretab from individuals. We did not gather this information from the businesses or individuals named — it was published by the state agency that issued the license, in accordance with that state's public records laws.
4.2 Data use categories — professional capacity only
Foretab's source data describes business entities and individuals acting in their professional capacity as owners, officers, managers, principals, or contractors of licensed alcohol-serving and alcohol-selling businesses. Foretab does not aggregate, append, or surface personal, household, or consumer information about any individual.
4.3 Limitation on principal/officer data
Where state license records include the names of natural persons (principals, officers, or licensees of record), Foretab displays this information only in the form published by the issuing state agency. We do not enrich, append, supplement, or cross-reference this data with information about those individuals from any other source. We do not maintain consumer profiles, behavioral data, household data, geolocation history, or any other category of consumer information about these individuals.
4.4 Requests from named individuals
If you are an owner, principal, or officer of a licensed establishment and have questions about the public record published about your business, the originating state agency is the authoritative source. We can remove individual records from the Foretab dashboard upon request where doing so does not undermine the integrity of the aggregated dataset for legitimate users; contact hi@foretab.com.
Please note that records removed at request may reappear in subsequent data refreshes if the originating state agency continues to publish them. We will honor a standing removal preference on a best-effort basis but cannot guarantee permanent exclusion of records that the state continues to publish.
5. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described in Section 3 to:
- Provide and maintain the Foretab dashboard
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Communicate with you about your account, billing, and important service changes
- Send marketing emails (only if you opted in; unsubscribe anytime)
- Respond to customer service inquiries
- Understand product usage and improve Foretab
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell or share your personal information. We do not sell personal information for monetary or other valuable consideration, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not rent your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
5.1 Automated classification
We use AI tools (currently Anthropic's Claude) to classify and categorize public license records. This is automated processing applied to public business records and does not involve any decisions about you, your account, your access to the Service, or any legal or similarly significant decisions affecting any individual. The AI provider processes records only to perform the classification task and does not retain them for model training.
5.2 Business transitions
If Slate Holdings LLC is acquired, merges with another entity, sells substantially all of its assets, or undergoes any similar corporate transaction, customer account information may be transferred to the successor entity as part of that transaction. We will notify active subscribers by email at least 30 days before such a transfer occurs, except where the transaction is required to close on a shorter timeline by law or by the terms of the transaction. The successor entity will be bound by the terms of this Privacy Policy with respect to your previously-collected information, or will notify you of any material changes in accordance with Section 14.
If Foretab is discontinued or wound down, we will notify active subscribers by email at least 60 days in advance and provide instructions for downloading any saved filters or exported data before service ends. Account information will then be deleted in accordance with Section 8 (Data Retention).
6. Third-Party Services (Subprocessors)
We use the following third-party services to operate Foretab, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Supabase — database hosting and authentication
- Vercel — web hosting for foretab.com and app.foretab.com
- Cloudflare — DNS, CDN, and security
- Stripe — payment processing, subscription management, and sales tax collection
- Anthropic — AI classification of public state license records
- Kit — email marketing list management
- Instantly — outbound email infrastructure for our own communications
- Resend — transactional email delivery
We selected these providers based on their security practices and data handling policies. We encourage you to review their privacy policies if you have concerns about how any of them handle data.
7. Email Communications
If you subscribe to our email list, you'll receive updates about Foretab, occasional product announcements, and content related to the liquor license intelligence space. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Click it and you're off the list immediately — no questions, no retention beyond what we are legally required to keep.
Account-related emails (signup confirmation, payment receipts, subscription changes, renewal reminders, password resets) are transactional and are sent regardless of marketing preferences. You receive these as part of maintaining your account; opting out requires cancelling your subscription.
8. Data Retention
We retain different categories of information for different periods, based on operational and legal need:
- Account information (email, subscription details) — retained while your account is active and for 90 days after cancellation, unless you request earlier deletion
- Payment records — retained for 7 years for tax and accounting purposes, as required by law
- Customer support correspondence — retained for 24 months from the last message
- Technical logs (access logs, error logs) — retained for 90 days
- Marketing list subscribers — retained until you unsubscribe
- Aggregated license records from state agencies — retained indefinitely as part of the product
You may request deletion of any of your account-level information at any time by contacting hi@foretab.com. We will honor the request within 30 days, except where law requires us to retain records longer (such as payment data for tax purposes).
Note on backups. Information you request to be deleted is removed from active systems within 30 days of your request. Encrypted backups containing that information may persist for up to an additional 60 days before being overwritten in the normal backup rotation cycle.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under applicable privacy law.
9.1 General rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Object to certain processing of your information
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, email hi@foretab.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests; we will only ask for information reasonably necessary to confirm you are the person who owns the account.
9.2 California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
Foretab does not currently offer subscriptions to customers domiciled in California, Washington, Texas, Vermont, or Oregon (see Section 2). California residents accessing Foretab through a non-California organization remain protected by the rights described in this section.
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act:
- The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and share
- The right to delete personal information
- The right to correct inaccurate personal information
- The right to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell or share for cross-context behavioral advertising)
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your CCPA rights
To exercise these rights, email hi@foretab.com.
Publicly available information from government records. Under California Civil Code § 1798.140, the CCPA's definition of "personal information" does not include information lawfully made available from federal, state, or local government records. State alcoholic beverage license records, as published by state ABC authorities, fall within this exclusion. Foretab's use of those records — informing industry vendors about who is licensed to operate in the regulated alcohol industry — is compatible with the government's purpose in publishing this data, namely transparency about licensed businesses operating in that industry. We do not use this data for unrelated purposes such as consumer marketing, credit decisions, identity verification, or any other purpose incompatible with the publication purpose of the originating agency.
9.3 European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland
If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent UK/Swiss law, including all the rights listed in Section 9.1, plus:
- The right to data portability
- The right to withdraw consent for processing based on consent
- The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise GDPR rights, email hi@foretab.com.
Our legal basis for processing your information is the performance of our contract with you (operating your Foretab subscription), our legitimate interests (operating and improving the product, fraud and security), our compliance with legal obligations (tax and accounting), and your consent where applicable (marketing emails).
10. Cookies and Tracking
We use a small number of cookies necessary to operate the Foretab dashboard (session cookies, authentication cookies). We do not use advertising cookies, do not track you across other websites, and do not participate in cross-site tracking networks.
We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where applicable. We do not act on Do Not Track browser signals as there is no industry consensus on how to interpret them; however, our practices do not involve cross-site tracking regardless of any browser signal.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though doing so may affect your ability to use the dashboard.
11. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption in transit — HTTPS for all web traffic to foretab.com and app.foretab.com
- Encryption at rest — database-level encryption via Supabase for sensitive fields
- Access controls — limiting who at Foretab can access customer data, with authentication via Supabase
- Vetted infrastructure providers — Supabase, Vercel, Cloudflare, and Stripe each maintain industry-standard security practices appropriate for the data they handle
- Breach notification commitment — if we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law
The size and complexity of our security program is appropriate to the size of our business and the sensitivity of the information we handle, consistent with the New York SHIELD Act's reasonable safeguards standard for small businesses. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. International Data Transfers
Foretab is operated from the United States. If you access Foretab from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, processed in, and stored in the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those in your country. By using Foretab, you consent to this transfer.
We do not currently market or sell subscriptions outside the United States.
13. Children
Foretab is a B2B product intended for business users. It is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact hi@foretab.com and we will delete it.
14. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify active account holders by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
Continued use of Foretab after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree to the updated policy, you may cancel your subscription and request deletion of your information.
